Paleo Diet for Beginners… A Carb Lover’s Journey to Health

If you are new to the paleo diet, join me on my journey to cut out grains, go sugar free, and dairy free.

I felt phenomenal after my weeklong detox that focused on nutrient dense, whole foods and eliminated grains, sugar, and dairy. I vowed to make it a lifelong way of eating but the holidays hit and I went totally off track. I gained a lot of weight since then – my ending detox weight was 150 and now I am 168. Yikes!

I am the first to admit that I LOVE food (especially carbs, sugar, and dairy of course) and need a lot of work in terms of my willpower and discipline. Doing video diaries really helps me due to the accountability it provides.

The paleo diet might seem extreme and too restrictive for some people and I understand that. I am a huge fan of ‘everything in moderation’ for the people that it actually works for. I am not one of those people. I can’t “have just one” of something – I want a ton of it. And once I start on something, I don’t stop.

I need to have tempting foods completely removed so that I don’t even have to worry about them. Also, when I get away from sugar, grains and dairy (though it’s awful at the start) I start to crave them less and feel more balanced.

More important than my weight is how I bad feel – I miss the energy I had. Now I am lethargic and unmotivated and out of shape. I don’t like feeling like this!

I will be diving back into the paleo diet and focusing on clean foods that will nourish my body and give me energy (and of course losing weight is always a great bonus).

I will drink a gallon of water a day and workout at least once a day (probably Buti yoga and some aerial hammock – I like to keep my fitness fun).
